Do I feel pain during hair transplant?

Hair transplant is an established surgical procedure that has been performed for about 60 years. Over the years, the techniques and the technology used in this area have significantly improved, and doctors have accumulated vast knowledge and experience, so the discomfort you may feel during the procedure has been reduced to minimum levels.

As hair transplant is performed while the patient is under local anesthesia, the patient feels almost no pain during the procedure. Patients might as well feel a mild pain for one day especially after the anesthesia wears off.

The pain will be kept to a minimum with the painkillers your doctor prescribes. You may also feel a slight discomfort, pain, or redness in the recipient area for a few days after the procedure. But most of our patients do not need pain killers after the hair transplant.

You may also feel some pain during the injection of local anesthesia. The level of pain here is very close to the pain caused by the injection for dental procedures.

During the procedure, you may feel tightness or tension on your scalp. This feeling may be more severe in hair transplants with FUT technique. Because we use FUE technique at our clinic, our patients do not usually complain about that.

Some people may describe this tension as “mild pain” because the pain threshold varies from person to person. But most of our patients say that they feel almost no discomfort.

The goal of hair transplant is to improve the aesthetic appearance of the patient. The level of satisfaction with the procedure is very high and many patients choose to ignore temporary side effects such as redness and pain that may occur after the operation.

At our DK Klinik Hair Transplant Unit, we provide our patients with various magazines, books, music, tablet computers to make the procedure more enjoyable and focus their attention on something other than the ongoing procedure.

In addition, our treatment chairs are specifically designed for hair transplant patients to maximize their comfort during the procedure.
