Who is the Best Hair Transplant Surgeon in Turkey?

If you’re thinking about having a hair transplant in Turkey, then you’re probably doing all of the research you possibly can. You’ll probably have questions such as how much is a hair transplant, how long is the recovery time, what is the best hair loss option for me, and does it hurt (much less than you’d think, actually).

And quite rightly so. We’d be the first to tell you that you shouldn’t undergo a hair transplant, or any other surgical procedure, without first knowing the full facts. There are some hair restoration clinics that will take your money as soon as you walk through the door for a consultation, but we firmly believe that each patient is different and needs to be treated as an individual.

And with the internet, answers to all our questions are only a few clicks away, be that a late-night search for “do penguins have knees” (yes, really – apparently Google has over 18,000 hits for this very question, every month) or “who is the best hair transplant surgeon in Turkey”.

What Makes Someone the Best Hair Surgeon?

And surprisingly, this last question is slightly trickier to answer than the one about penguin’s knees. Because it’s subjective, isn’t it? There’s no official leader board for the best surgeon in Turkey performing hair transplant procedures. Just the same as there isn’t one for the best country, or the best car, or best song. People will have their opinions, and their favourites, and there may be glitzy award ceremonies and endorsements for certain things, but these can never be 100% unbiased.

We can’t tell you that we’re the best. We believe that we are, because, like all clinics claiming to be the best, we believe that we are. There’d be no point being in business otherwise, would there?

But what we can tell you, with much certainly, is how we operate and what we do to strive to be the best hair transplantation clinic in Turkey.

We’re Members of ISHRS

Here at the DK Hair Klinik we’re members of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, or ISHRS. The ISHRS is a global non-profit medical association. It’s well respected and considered to be the leading authority on hair loss treatment and restoration.

It’s crucial that any hair transplant procedure is carried out by a surgeon, and surgical team, that are fully trained, experienced.

It’s vital that you don’t visit a hair surgeon or clinic that isn’t registered with the ISHRS. You could end up spending a lot of money for a hair transplant with disastrous results.

Our Founder and Lead Surgeon Dr. Meltem Şentürk is Highly Qualified, Certified and Respected

Dr. Meltem Şentürk qualified as a doctor in 1994. Shen then qualified as a specialist in dermatology in 2000. She worked at the prestigious Antalya State Hospital from 2000 to 2009, leaving the hospital to concentrate on her work at the DK Klinik that she’d personally set up in 2002.

She’s a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). As we’ve mentioned, this is the leading global body on hair loss restoration and treatment which means that not only is she a brilliant surgeon, she keeps fully up to date on improvements to hair transplant procedures, techniques ,and technology.

She oversees everything that goes on at the clinic, and if your hair transplant isn’t carried out by Dr. Şentürk herself, you can be rest assured that it will be carried out by another doctor that is trained to her high and exacting standards.

Dr. Şentürk and the entire team working in the DK Hair Klinik are also registered under the following memberships:

  • International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS)
  • European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV)
  • European Society of Cosmetic & Aesthetic Dermatology (ESCAD)
  • Turkish Dermatology Association (TURKDERM)

Whilst these might not mean too much to you, they all mean a lot to us. They mean we’re actively recognised as a trustworthy and professional clinic, and that we get results. We have tens of thousands of happy patients who’s lives we have changed for the better.

Dr. Şentürk was also one of the first dermatologists to receive the Certificate Dermato-Cosmetic Sciences. This is handed out to the best by the Vrije University of Belgium, which is highly regarded as one of the best authorities on hair transplantation surgery in the world. Further making us stand out as one of the best options for hair restoration surgery in Turkey.

At any given point, it seems as if at least one of our team members is at one international conference or another, learning new skills and updating their old ones. They always excitedly return, full of news on how we can keep on improving our offering as the science and technology of hair transplants moves on.

Dr. Şentürk insists on openness and transparency too. These qualities are embedded in our culture at the DK Hair Klinik. We have regular team meetings during which we discuss, and endeavour to resolve, any problems we might be experiencing. If for example, a piece of equipment isn’t up to scratch, we’ll find an alternative. This could be as trivial as our surgical gloves, or as major as the punch tools, we use to perform the hair transplants themselves.

You are our most important asset, and we do all we can to make your experience with us an excellent one, under the watchful eye of our founder.

We Use the Gold Standard of Surgical Hair Transplant Procedures

Naturally, we also want to provide you with the best hair transplant results. This means that we always use the Gold Standard of hair transplantation – the Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, method.

This method involves your surgeon using a tiny punch tool to extract single follicular units from around the back of your scalp where the follicles are stronger, and transplanting them directly into the front, top and sides of your scalp where you need new hair growth. (A follicular unit is a small section of tissue taken from the scalp that contains four or five hair follicles and up to 20 individual hairs.)

Some, less advanced hair restoration clinics are still using the older method of Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT. This is also known as the strip harvesting method. It involves removing a long, thin strip of skin from the back of the scalp, usually from ear to ear. The surgical teams then extract the follicular units from this strip, prepare them and then transplant them to the areas of the scalp that require them.

We’re extremely appreciative of this method. We wouldn’t be here without the pioneering science of earlier hair transplant surgeons developing this method. But the science, technology, and understanding has moved on, and the FUT method is now considered outdated.

It stands to reason too, that this kind of surgical procedure will leave behind a long, thin scar around the back of the head. Unless you wear your hair long, it will remain visible for some time. With FUE, scarring is greatly minimised. Instead of a couple of weeks for the wound to heal as it does with the older FUT method, our FUE procedure only takes two to three days for the tiny wounds to heal. Even with the shortest hair, your scars won’t show.

Also, with our FUE method, your surgeon and team won’t extract any low quality follicular units from the donor area at the back of your head. With the strip harvest method, the surgeon has no choice but to take the weak follicular units with the strong, as they’ll all be removed together in one long strip.

Read our article on The Difference Between FUE and FUT Hair Transplants for more information.

Things haven’t always been this advanced. Believe it or not, hair transplants began way back, in 1822! It was in Germany, and a forward -thinking doctor called Dr. Dieffenbach developed a way of taking hair from a hairy part of the body, such as the legs, and transplanting it into a less hairy part such as a balding scalp. So, for generations, people just like you have been concerned about losing their hair. It’s thought, though, that back in the day, Dr. Dieffenbach used animal hair and feathers too…

So, Dr. Dieffenbach, we admire your innovate thoughts and ideas, but we’re pretty glad that we’re sticking to the gold standard here at the DK Hair Klinik.

How the DK Hair Klinik Will Help you with Your Recovery

So, we’ve told you all about our excellent lead surgeon and clinical staff and how we use the best hair transplant procedures. Now, how about the way in which we actually look after you? After all, we could be amazing at the surgery part, but the aftercare is just as important.

We don’t believe in confusing pricing packages or throwing in hidden extras. When you book a surgical hair transplant procedure at the DK Hair Klinik, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting. Our all-inclusive fixed price of £2,000 includes the following:

  • An unlimited number of hair grafts using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) method of hair transplantation
  • The cost of the surgeon’s time, the clinic space and equipment, anaesthetic drugs and highly trained and experienced clinic staff
  • A Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment to help prepare your scalp to accept the newly transplanted follicles
  • A three or four night stay at our boutique partner hotel
  • Breakfast each morning of your stay
  • Transfers to and from the airport, clinic and hotel
  • Aftercare, aftercare, aftercare.

It’s this aftercare that is the crucial part. (You may have guessed that bit by now.) Some clinics might wave you off at the door afterwards without a care in the world. We’re not like that. We completely understand that you’ll have questions and worries after your procedure, especially if its your first hair transplant.

That’s why we invest so much time and effort into looking after you. You’re likely to be staying with us for a day or two afterwards, so all the time you’re here in Antalya, you can visit your personal and dedicated healthcare specialist to discuss anything that might be concerning you.

This could be as seemingly trivial (but very important) as advice on how to sleep to protect your scalp. Or it could be to discuss any pain you’re experiencing or symptoms you’re not sure about. Trust us, there isn’t anything we haven’t seen before, so any questions you have, we’re bound to have heard numerous times before. Never feel embarrassed or shy!

But it doesn’t stop there. Once you return home to the UK, you can still contact us. You will be given access to specialist and personalised support from a trained and experienced expert via WhatsApp.

Not that we think you will have problems. But because we want you, and all our patients, to have the peace of mind that if for some reason things don’t turn out the way we’d hoped, that you’ll still have support.

You’ll be fully armed with all the scalp lotions, shampoos and pain relief medications that you’ll need too. There’s more on those further down, but rest assured you’ll be given all the information you need in order to support your new hair growth and the health of your scalp.

We Adhere to the AQICS Method

We’re proud to adhere to a strict set of rules that mean that we’re continually improving and striving to provide the best experience and outcome for our patients. AQICS stands for Aesthetics, Quality, Improvement, Control & Science. Here’s more on each one:

Aesthetics

We know how much all of our patients simply want a better appearance so each one of our hair transplants is performed to maximise the aesthetics of that individual. We think of it as a mix of science and art.

No one will ever have a hair transplant procedure with us without an in-depth discussion with our experts about what they want to achieve, and what we can achieve. There is no one size fits all when it comes to hair transplants.

Quality

We prioritise quality over quantity. For example, we don’t think 5,000 grafts in one day is good for your scalp. It can cause shock and trauma, and we’d far sooner see patients over two days, rather than squeezing more patients into one day appointment slots.

Improvement

We’re continually adding improved, cutting edge technologies to our hair transplant procedures. For example, we use platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy alongside our punch tool grafting technique to reduce healing time and accelerate growth. We also store grafts in a HypoThermosol solution until they’re needed for transplantation. This nourishes the grafts making them more likely to succeed.

Control

All of our procedures and staff are subject to the strictest of controls and our surgeons routinely keep up to date with the latest technologies and regularly appear in national and international hair transplant conferences.

Science

We don’t use any products or carry out any procedures that haven’t been subject to rigorous scientific research and are clinically proven. We also carry out our own scientific research and make it available to clinics around the world to help set the bar high for hair transplants. Everything we do is inspired by science.

Why the DK Hair Transplant Klinik?

Our sister-clinic, the DK Klinik, opened its doors in 2002, which makes us part of one of the oldest dermatology clinics in the beautiful city of Antalya. Between us, we’ve helped to improve the appearance, confidence and lives of tens of thousands of people.

Here’s some of the factors that we’re proud to offer, as standard, to all of our patients:

  • Competent staff, all experts in their field, including hair transplant surgeons, dermatologists and registered nurses qualified in hair transplant techniques.
  • A full consultation, prior to any surgical work being carried out, that looks at the suitability of the donor site (normally around the back of the head, where the grafts are taken from), the availability of the recipient site (usually the top and front of the head, where the grafts are transplanted), the health of the hair follicles, the number of grafts required and the best hairstyle that can be achieved.
  • All procedures carried out under the watchful eye of our founding, and highly experienced doctor, Dr Meltem Şentürk.
  • Scientifically proven techniques and equipment including microscopic hair analysis, laser precision hairline design, and highly precise sapphire blades that provide the ideal recipient sites for hair follicles. We also use a clinically proven physiological saline solution to store grafts until they’re needed which prolongs their lifespan and is similar to the solution that human organs are stored in before they’re transplanted.
  • No unexpected costs – our fees include everything, from the cost of the transplant, the surgeon and surgical team, to the blood tests you’ll need beforehand and the special shampoos, lotions, medications, dressing, hair bands and hats you’ll need afterwards. We’ll never surprise you with additional costs.
  • Exceptional after care including getting in touch with you at crucial time points after your hair transplantation procedure to check on the progress of your donor site, hair grafts and general health. We also keep full records, including before and after photographs for future reference.
  • Quality backed up by patient questionnaires and a mystery customer system. We use all feedback to help us continually improve.

What Makes the Best Hair Transplant?

One of the crucial ways of creating a successful hair transplant is communication between you and your hair surgeon. Although our hair surgeons are high skilled and experienced, you still need to tell them exactly what you’re looking for.

Our hair restoration experts are not liars either. They are always completely upfront and honest about what they can achieve. This will depend on your current level of hair loss, whether your hairline is still receding and how strong your hair follicles are around the back of your scalp. (These will be harvested from this area and used to transplant back into the front, top and sides of your scalp where you’re experiencing hair loss.)

This two way communication will mean that you’ll be totally informed and aware of how successful your hair transplant will be. You’ll also understand exactly how the procedure will go ahead, and what you can expect throughout.

That aside, we pride ourselves on providing the best care and best results possible. You’ve already read above, how our surgeon, Dr. Meltem Şentürk is so highly regarded in her field of expertise, and how we only use the gold standard technique for performing a hair transplant procedure.

So how else do we guarantee you the best service?

Designing a Completely Natural New Hairline

A hair transplant isn’t simply an ad hoc procedure that magically ends up in a full head of luscious hair. It takes skill, precision and meticulous planning. A major part of this planning involves the design of a new hairline.

If you, like many of our patients, haven’t had an actual hairline at the front of your scalp for years, this might be tricky to envisage at the top of your forehead. But our surgeons are already one step ahead. As soon as they see you, their brains are sizing you up, detailing in their minds how your new hairline should look. Your hairline is as individual to you as your fingerprints, and depends on the thickness of your hair, your face shape, your eye shape and everything in between.

You might be striving for perfection, but when was the last time you saw a perfectly straight and even hairline? Aside from perhaps on a child’s doll in perfectly neat rows or on a plastic Lego character with neatly painted on hair.

Our guess is, you’d rather not look like either. So natural is the way forward. A natural hairline is almost uneven, and will ever so subtly move upwards and downwards. Not in a dramatic zig zag of course, but by one or two hair follicles along the top of the forehead. A natural hairline doesn’t start of thickly either. Instead, it starts off thin, and gradually gets thicker as your hair moves back across your scalp.

So you can be absolutely certain that your hairline will look natural in the hands of our experts. We have lots more info on how we design the right hairline too. Just like an artist, who will add their name to their work because they’re proud if it, our surgeons take pride in you, their ‘canvas’ in hair restoration techniques. Short of signing their name in your hairline, they’re definitely not going to let you leave with a ridiculous hairline!

Things to Consider when Thinking About a Hair Transplant in Turkey

It’s exciting, right?! You’re almost there, you’ve almost decided that a hair transplant is for you. (If you’re unsure, why not book in for our free online hair transplant consultation to find out exactly how we can help you? There’s no obligation to book, and we’ll never pressurise you, so what do you have to lose?!)

Hopefully, you’ve decided to have your hair restored back to its former glory with us here at the DK Hair Klinik. (If not, then we still have time to convince you why we believe we’re the best.)

Flights to Antalya

But what else do you need to consider? Well, there’s the flights, obviously. You can fly directly to Antalya from the UK from most major airports, towns and cities, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast.

We’re only four hours away by air, and when you book your hair transplant, we’ll ask for your flight details (if you have them, or give them to us once you’ve booked them) so that we can organise your transport from the airport either directly to us at the clinic, or to your hotel, depending on the time of day that you land.

You can arrange to arrive early if you like, to spend a few days relaxing and exploring before the big day. Antalya has so much to offer all kinds of tourists. Just let us know so that we’re not looking for you at the airport…

What to Pack

Packing for a few days or weeks in the sun is generally easy. Passport, swimwear, some fancy evening wear and a few good books is generally how it goes.

But packing to travel to sunny Turkey for a hair transplant is different. Although you’ll be in sunnier climes, you won’t be able to sunbathe with your head in direct sunlight. This includes beforehand – no one wants a hair transplant carried out on a sunburnt scalp!

Afterwards, you’ll need to stay out of direct sunlight for the first few weeks and months. Those newly transplanted follicles need to be looked after and although sunshine generally makes us feel good, your scalp and follicles won’t thank you for it.

So pack for relaxation by all means, but perhaps bring some loungewear more suited to the indoors that you’ll be comfortable in.

We provide a hat that you can wear to protect your scalp from the sun afterwards, and we’ll show you how to put it on and take it off.

Don’t forget, you’ll be given shampoos and lotions to take home with you, so don’t just book hand luggage only on the flight home. You’ll need to pack these in a case that will go in the hold because they’ll more than likely be over the 100ml liquid limit allowed in cabin baggage for most flights.

Don’t forget the decent reading material though, you’ll need something to while away the time you’ll have with us in our partner hotel afterwards!

The Rise in Medical Tourism to Turkey

Many people choose to go abroad for medical treatments. These include cosmetic surgery procedures, invasive dental treatments to improve their smile and of course, hair transplants. And why wouldn’t they? Find the right doctor or clinic and you could save yourself hundreds, if not thousands of pounds on what it would cost you to have the same procedure or treatment in the UK. And that’s including flights and accommodation!

Plus, choosing somewhere like Turkey means sunny (even if you can’t go outside), beautiful and relaxing places to recover and recuperate. You can always explore beforehand too, if you book a few extra days.

Also, these days, many countries have improved their standards of care and what it means to have clean, professional and sanitised working spaces. Not all of them obviously, and we can only speak for ourselves when it comes to our own extremely high standards. But on the whole, travelling abroad for medical treatment is better than it was.

Medical tourism, as it’s known, is on the rise for these reasons. Especially to Turkey. The Turkish government has grand plans for increasing medical tourism to the country too, to help boost the Turkish economy. But what does this mean for you?

Good question!

It means that there’s no room for clinics like ours to slack. We can’t hide, either. Not that we’d want to slack or hide. We’ve always held the safety and the wellbeing of our patients (people just like you) in the highest regard. But Turkey’s so called 2023 Vision Project is aiming for big things, including making Turkey a trusted place for people to come to from all over the world, for safe, professional and cost effective medical treatment.

And just because it’s cheaper, it doesn’t mean it’s a poorer quality. Far from it. Its simply cheaper due to lower clinic and living costs in a country such as ours.

How Many People Have a Hair Transplant in Turkey?

The latest figures suggest that more than 5,000 people visit Turkey every single month for a hair transplant. So you’re far from alone. In fact, it’s quite common, according to Wired magazine, to see people visiting museums and places of interest in Turkey, wearing the tell tale head bandages of a hair transplant. Some groups of friends even visit as a self-supporting gang and all have the procedure done at the same time. There’s nothing like a shared experience to bond people huh?!

Here at the DK Hair Klinik, we have solo travellers, groups and people with their partners flooding through our doors, all with a common goal – to get the hairline of their dreams. And we’re more than happy to help out and change lives.

Like we’re always proud to say, we have all the relevant certifications and inspections required by all the relevant bodies. So, although more medical tourism means more clinics and more competition, we’re all for the safety of anyone having the procedure.

Causes of Hair Loss

Because we don’t like to go on too much about the benefits of having your hair transplant surgery with us, we thought we’d stop talking about us for a while, and talk about you. You’re here, on a hair transplant clinic website looking for the best surgeon in Turkey, so, the chances are, you’re either losing your hair currently, or you’re concerned about losing it in the future.

We’re an understanding bunch, and we appreciate how distressing hair loss can be. It doesn’t matter how old you are, what gender you are, what your skin colour is, what your sexual preferences are, where you come from or what you get up to for work or play – losing your hair can be upsetting. We see all walks of life in our clinic, people losing their hair for all manner of reasons.

For us to simply say that hair loss is just another factor in getting older sounds rather blasé, but its true. And in most cases, its nothing medically to worry about. You’re not alone either. The majority of men, 85%, in their 50s have experienced some level of hair loss, from a slightly receding hairline, to a scalp completely free from hair.

Male Pattern Baldness

The most common reason men lose their hair, is male pattern baldness. This is caused by the pesky male sex hormone, dihydrotestosterone, or to give it a simpler name, DHT. As men age, DHT builds up in the body and the hair follicles become more and more sensitive to it. This means that these delicate follicles begin to absorb fewer nutrients, which makes them shrink and become weaker. They will still continue to produce hairs, but these hairs will be thinner and more likely to break. Eventually however, the weakened, nutrient starved hair follicles die, and therefore will no longer produce hairs.

This is a normal, biological process, much like the skin wrinkling and the bones becoming weaker are also normal consequences of getting older.

Female Pattern Baldness

Female pattern baldness is also a common condition. Male pattern baldness tends to affect the front and sides of the scalp, resulting in the familiar pattern of male hair loss. Female pattern hair loss however, tends to be more towards the top and middle of the scalp, around the parting area. It’s more common in women who have been through the menopause. It’s much less likely that women will experience a fully balding scalp. Rather, they will experience a general overall thinning of the hair.

Other Causes of Hair Loss

Stress is another cause of hair loss, both in men and women. As is a poor diet, that lacks in certain nutrients, specifically the B vitamins, protein and / or iron. In women, pregnancy and heath conditions that cause a hormonal imbalance such as polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS, can lead to temporary hair loss. Certain drugs, such as those to treat high blood pressure and gout can also cause hair loss.

The Pros and Cons of Having Hair Restoration Surgery

So you’ve got this far, well done! We do like to keep you fully informed on the ins and out of having a hair transplant for hair loss, it’s all part of the service. So what about the pros and cons of such surgery? You might be really teetering on the edge of a decision, so as ever, we’re here to help.

So, lets start with the positives, of which there are many.

The Pros of Having a Hair Transplant

Done well, a hair transplant will result in long term, natural results. Once the transplanted hair follicles are settled in their new home and begin to produce hairs, they will continue to do so for many years and decades to come. This is because your surgeon would’ve taken the strongest follicles from around the back of the head, that are less susceptible to shrinking and eventually dying.

Another benefit is that a hair transplant can be as targeted as you like. You might only want to fill in the very front of your hair line to make it thicker and fuller, and this is entirely possible with a hair transplant. Conversely, you might want to cover the whole of the front and top of your scalp where you have a large balding area. Again, this is entirely possible with hair transplant surgery.

Unlike with topical solutions or oral drugs that help control hair loss such as Regaine or Propecia, a hair transplant is a one off experience. Solutions and drugs need to be applied and taken every single day in for them to work. And whilst they’re often effective, if you decide to stop taking them, within a few weeks or months, your hair will stop growing and any new hairs you’ve grown are likely to fall out. With a hair transplant, the results are much more permanent, and can even be successful when hair loss is more progressive.

Both males and females can benefit from hair restoration surgery, and it can work to produce noticeable yet natural results where all other hair loss treatments haven’t.

We don’t need to tell you how much more confident you’ll be after a successful hair transplant. You already have an idea of that! It can be a huge boost to self-esteem, which can lead to more successful relationships and even more confidence at work, especially if you’re in the public eye.

The Cons of Having a Hair Transplant

As with any elective procedure, there are cons to having hair restoration surgery. The major one is price. A hair transplant is costlier, in terms of a lump sum, than hair loss medications and scalp solutions. (That said, it’s a one off procedure whereas the cost of drugs continues for as long as you take them.)

A hair transplant takes time, too. You could be in the surgeon’s chair for eight hours, and whilst the procedure is much less painful than you might think, there is still some discomfort. There’s the healing time too, which can be a few weeks to months. Then there’s the waiting for the hair to begin to grow which can also take a few months.

The Side Effects of Leaving your Scalp to Go Bald

As we’ve mentioned before, we don’t believe in the hard sell. If you’re unsure about having a hair transplant, then it’s totally up to you to decide whether you want to go ahead or not. We can only advise and support you, and tell you how professional and expert we are in the art of hair restoration.

Additionally, if we don’t think you’re suitable for a hair transplant procedure for health reasons or because your hair loss is too advanced, we won’t book you in for one. That will all become clear during your free initial online consultation. (The majority of our patients are entirely suitable for treatment.)

But we would like to highlight some of the psychological effects of losing your hair. You might not even need us to tell you that its an upsetting time of life, no matter how old you are when you first notice your hair thinning.

But what if this hair related upset becomes more than that? Going bald can result in low self-esteem, that could impact how you behave in social situations, at work or in relationships. Low self confidence can snowball into worse situations, such as depression, especially when its linked to how we perceive ourselves fitting in with our peer groups.

Especially in groups of males. Ribbing and poking fun of the guy in the group who’s losing his hair is commonplace. On TV, in magazines, we see it all the time. Its seen as an easy target and most of the time, guys simply laugh it off. But going home with that deep hurt and upset inside is a horrible experience.

For women, its perhaps worse. Whilst women are unlikely to take the mickey out of female friends who have thinning hair, its still a massive confidence sapping thing to have to experience. Wondering if anyone’s noticed, feeling awkward when people are behind you, or looking down on you, literally, from above. Plus, there’s almost an acceptance of male pattern baldness as being a manly thing. It adds to masculinity at times. But female pattern baldness can actually take away from femininity.

We understand all of this. Which is why our gentle, understanding and human approach from the first consultation to the big day of surgery and beyond, is remarked upon by our tens of thousands of satisfied patients.

We want each and every one of our patients to leave feeling confident, with their head held high, that they’ve found it within themselves to fix a problem that has been causing them so much stress and upset. Nothing makes us happier than the human side of what we do.

Our Top Tips for Recovering from a Surgical Hair Transplant Procedure

Of course, having a hair transplant is a procedure that you need to recover from, and do all you can to make sure that recovery is successful. You could go to the ‘best hair transplant surgeon in the world’ (if that accolade actually and genuinely exists, because remember, there is no Oscar for Best Hair Surgeon) and your hair transplant could still fail if you don’t take the aftercare seriously.

Here at the DK Hair Klinik, we take pride in making sure all our patients are fully armed with the scalp care information they need.

Here’s What We Suggest

  • Follow our surgeon’s advice on shampoos, lotions, sprays and any drugs to the letter. Whatever we tell you to do, do it. Everyone is different, and will have different circumstances. Each surgeon is different too, and may give different advice. Don’t follow what your friend said to do, because they did it after their hair transplant. Follow what we tell you to do.
  • For a rough guide to what to do with regard to shampooing your hair and keeping your scalp clean, see our blog post on Our Top Tips for Hair Transplant Recovery.
  • Diet is crucial too. Just as a healthy diet will nourish the body and keep the heart, brain and stomach healthy, eating the right foods will help keep the scalp healthy and help maximise hair growth. Scalp healthy foods are much the same as the foods we’re all told to eat more of. They include fresh fruits and vegetables, protein in the form of lean meats, beans, chickpeas and lentils and omega 3 fatty acids from oily fish, flaxseeds and walnuts.
  • Naturally, a healthy diet also excludes smoking. This is important for overall health, but smoking can also reduce the amount of oxygen reaching the skin of the scalp. Oxygen rich blood is crucial for healthy wound healing, and if impaired, could lead to unhealed wounds, scarring, infection and an unsuccessful hair transplant.
  • A healthy diet also means avoiding excessive alcohol and this is the case for after a hair transplant too. You should refrain from drinking any alcohol in the seven days immediately following a hair transplant. After this, avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcohol whilst you’re still healing. Getting drunk can impair your judgement, leading to unnecessary risk taking and potential accidents. The last thing your scalp needs after hair restoration surgery is a knock, scratch or bump.
  • Our advice to is to relax for a few days after your surgery. You’re likely to be feeling a little delicate or bruised, so a few days to rest is good. In terms of exercise or doing anything more strenuous than a gentle walk, you’ll need to keep this to a minimum too. Exercise puts you at more risk of accidentally knocking your scalp, and excessive sweating can impact on the recovery of your newly transplanted hair follicles.

Each member of our team has a dedicated role and they’re fully qualified to carry out all of the duties they do. This guarantees the most natural, and successful results for all of our patients.

So, if you’re looking to have a hair transplant, by a friendly, experienced and knowledgeable team, then contact us today. You could soon be celebrating a fresh new hair line, renewed confidence and a bright future where hair worries are a thing of the past.

(Oh, and that penguin question? Turns out, those funny and adorable short legged creatures do have knees. Who knew?!)
